This 1905 image shows the pre-war tunnel of the elevated railway line of Berlin’s U-Bahn located between Dennewitzstraße and Bülowstr. This line was the first one of the city and was built by Siemens and Halske in 1902, comprising parts of today’s lines U1 and U2 and rans west-east from Warschauer Brücke through Gleisdreieck and along Landwehrkanal towards Stralauer Tor. This elevated railway was destroyed during the British bombing campaign of November 1943. [Photo: Max Missmann-Stadtmuseum Berlin]. Below is a March 2025 photo from the same viewpoint. The elevated railway was reconstructed after the war, not the same to the buildings between Dennewitzstraße and Bülowstr, destroyed during the intense bombings by RAF aircraft. [Photo by the author.]
